Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/cnforbiddennews Like us on FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/chinaforbiddennews 21st Century Business Herald website was said to be involved in the Communist central struggle. Communist media Xinhua reported Sept. 12 that the website, 21cbh.com had its license revoked, but then changed to ‘under investigation.’ Critics believe this bizarre incident highlights the fierce battle within the Communist central. On Sept. 12, the Chinese Internet was widely reporting that 21cbh.com was barred from all Internet sources. In the evening, Xinhua also revealed, the website had its website qualification withdrawn, its employees dismissed and company registration canceled. Many employees of its associated business, Money Week, were taken away for investigation. However, Xinhua’s release was quickly deleted and replaced: ‘Investigation of 21cbh.com will be conducted by a joint investigation team tomorrow.’ Why did Xinhua quickly announce the ‘verdict’ while the investigation is underway? Why did Xinhua change its tone? The incident of 21cbh.com, belonging to Southern Weekly in Guangdong, has drawn much speculation that intense struggle is behind the scene. Beijing politics watcher Hua Po tells NTD, Shanghai police conducted the arrest and announced the dismissal of 21cbh.com, but, the Guangdong side believe that the decision prior to a thorough investigation was too hasty. Hua Po: "Guangdong side did not overthrow this case, but intend to investigate. This is how a fierce game is presented." Hua Po explains a major trend behind this case: Liu Yunshan is trying to control the new social media, the Internet. The Southern Weekly, headquartered in Guangdong, has enjoyed relative freedom and thus is very substandard to Liu Yunshan’s appetite. This incident was a suppression conducted by Liu Yunshan and Shanghai Party Secretary Han Zheng. Hua Po: "I think it is a suppression of the new media by the propaganda system dominated by Liu Yunshan. I think this is an alternative opposition to Xi Jinping." The deep reform group headed by Xi Jinping announced the decision to engage in development of new media such as the Internet on Aug. 18. Hua Po analyzes, Xi Jinping’s decision imposes a big threat to Liu Yunshan. The new media is hard to control. In particular, the negative coverage of Communist bureaucracy is a headache to Liu Yunshan. Therefore, he attacked the Southern Weekly through Shanghai. Hua Po: "It's a lesson for the Guangdong Party Secretary Hu Chunhua. This is infighting. This shows it has been very intense." As early as Sept. 3, Shanghai police arrested 8 people from 21cbh.com, including the editor, on the charge of ‘news blackmail.’ 21cbh.com is under the pro-Xi Jinping Nanfang Media Group in Guangdong. It was analyzed then, whether the ‘news blackmail’ is real, it could be revenge from the Jiang faction against Guangdong Province. Earlier, Yangcheng Evening News of Guangdong published a picture of a dying toad on an IV injection. It was believed to allude to the dilemma of the former Communist leader Jiang Zemin. On Sept. 5, Guangdong Provincial Party Secretary Hu Chunhua quickly hit back by announcing the investigation of two officials of the Jiang faction. The Epoch Times also reported that 21cbh.com was retaliated against for various exposures of the corrupt shady Jiang faction.。 For example, the shady story of Shanghai Pharmaceuticals Holding under the Shanghai SASAC (State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission); exposure of the shady stock of CSM Group (China Science & Merchants Venture Capita) under Jiang Mianheng, Jiang Zemin’s son. The 21cbh.com also suspected Jiang’s grandson, Alvin Jiang was involved in Alibaba Group shares. On Aug. 21, 21cbh.com revealed the chaotic trading myth in Tianjin Bohai Commodity Exchange, which is considered to be related to Politburo Standing Committee Zhang Gaoli, another of the Jiang faction. Up to the report of the evening of Sept. 14, 21cbh.com was still running and updating. The future of the website has yet to be revealed. 《神韵》2014世界巡演新亮点 http://www.ShenYunPerformingArts.org/

Officers have arrested 11 people and expect to make more arrests as investigations continue. Adam Xu reports. Police arrested a 23-year-old man in Tai Po yesterday. The suspect, who came from the mainland on a two-way travel permit, was about to collect “ransom” from a 69-year-old Hong Kong man. Police said there were at least 20 other such cases, in which members of the mainland-based syndicate would make random calls – telling whoever picked up the phone that a family member had been kidnapped. Victims, ranging from 56 to 87 years old, were then told to transfer an amount of money to a mainland bank account or hand it over in person, in return for their loved ones’ release. The largest sum involved, in one case, was more than 200,000 dollars. Police say since the syndicate was formed last May, the group had fleeced victims of a total of some 1.94 million dollars. Officers also say the ring was behind 95 percent of such frauds recorded in the city during the period. Officers in Guangdong have nabbed the ring’s leaders. Police say their cross-border operation with mainland law enforcement is ongoing and more could be arrested.

First stop, Shenzhen. Incoming Communist Party chief Xi Jinping is in Guangdong province. And the trip to southern China is making a statement—a statement that some say is two decades old. [Zhang Tianliang, NTD Senior China Analyst] "Xi's visit to Guangdong is to publicize his reform image, like what Deng Xioaping's 'southern tour' did in 1992. It kicked started China's 'lame duck reform'—that is, an economic reform without political change." Xi Jinping's tour of Guangdong province is his first trip as the new leader of the Communist Party. The similarities to former leader Deng Xiaoping's "southern tour" twenty years ago are hard to miss. From the understated coach Xi travelled in, to this tree planting ceremony. Like Deng's trip, Xi Jinping's comes at a time when the Communist Party is faced with prickly political and social challenges. Deng's answer was full blast economic reform and opening up. But with one condition. The Communist Party was to stay the supreme ruler. But former professor at George Mason University, Zhang Tianliang, says that road was what led to the current situation: a political system that's grossly inadequate to deal with the changes that economic reform has brought. [Zhang Tianliang, NTD Senior China Analyst] "This road can't go on. Everyone can see clearly now that if Xi continues Deng Xiaoping's path, it'll be another dead end." On Monday, state-run CCTV reports that Xi Jinping told Guangdong's entrepreneurs and government officials that there are new economic challenges ahead. Xi also said reform must be deepened for China's market economy. Democracy advocate Wang Beiling, now living in exile in the US, says the Communist regime is dancing to its own tune. [Wang Beiling, Democracy Advocate] "The Communist Party is stuck in its own delusion. It wants to be politically conservative, but push the economy to maintain power. That's just what it hopes for, and it's dancing with shackles on." The coastal Guangdong province has been at the forefront of economic development under the Chinese regime. Xi Jinping's father, Xi Zhongxu, was the provincial governor between the late 1970s to early 1980s. During his term, he influenced Deng Xiaoping to allow the region greater economic liberalization. Villagers smashed down a wall around a plot of land seized by authorities and are demanding it be returned to them. Chinese authorities often force farmers from their land, offering them only a fraction of the money their property is worth. Over the weekend, hundreds of farmers in southern China's Guangdong Province kept protesting land seizures by local authorities. There were violent clashes in the city of Lufeng earlier last week. Protestors had attacked government buildings and a police station after riot police had allegedly beat up protestors. Villagers in Wukan also vowed to keep protesting until authorities return farmland that had been sold to developers. On Saturday, no new cases of violence were reported, but villagers are adamant to not let the issue rest. [Wukan Villager]: "We want them to return all our land because if we don't have the roots of our farmland, we have nothing to eat. Only with justice, they must give us justice because with justice people have rice to eat." In Longguang, villagers rented three earthmovers on Friday, smashing down a wall that had surrounded a plot of farmland that had been seized four years ago. [Li Muxia, Longguang Villager]: "When we tore down the wall yesterday we were very happy. Everyone was very happy. But even though we were happy we also feel concerned. We're also afraid the government officials won't return the land to us." Land grabs are common in China, and often result from the collusion of private companies and local officials. Farmers kicked off of their land are often reimbursed far below the market rate or they are re-settled in cities where there's way to make a living.
